FAQ

  • What to Expect This Season:
The City League Soccer season runs 10 weeks. In the first week, we’ll hold fun, camp-style practices so coaches and players can get to know each other. In week two, we’ll form balanced teams, assign a paid and trained coach to each team, and kick off the season (no cuts).

Each team will practice once a week and play one game per week after school for 90 minutes sometime between 3:30–5:30 PM. In addition, there may be two select weekend games and a City League Cup Tournament (held in Park City), where teams will play 3–4 games.

The regular season includes six games followed by three weeks of playoffs with a Regular Season Champion will be crowned (separate from the Cup Tournament).

All players will receive high-quality, City League uniforms at no extra cost. Uniforms will be collected at the end of the season.

  • The Short: City League Soccer's structured season runs in the fall. In the spring, we offer unstructured pickup soccer and encourage participation in other sports or activities.  This is all built around the intentional approach to provide true multi-sport experiences at these critical ages of exposure.
The Why: Fall season includes formal practices and competitive games from August to October. In spring, City League offers pickup soccer from April through June. This balance of structured and unstructured play helps kids get more touches, stay active, and build long-term love for the game. It also teaches them how to "just go out and play!"  Playing multiple sports at these ages develops the best athleticism and helps kids discover the sports they truly enjoy—making it far more likely they’ll stay active and continue playing as they grow older.  The evidence says that elementary aged kids who truly play and develop in multiple sports out-pace specialized youth athletes starting at around age 15.

  • The Short: Yes, they play and practice together.
The Why: This blended model is one of City League’s key advantages. Kids learn to lead and follow, adapt to different roles, and grow regardless of age or size. It creates richer team dynamics and helps prepare all players for 11v11 soccer by 7th grade. With individualized coaching and top-tier drills, each child is pushed to develop at their own pace within the context of a team, fostering confidence and love for the game, as well as introducing the concepts of "roles and responsibilities," within a team.

  • The Short: There are no tryouts—every interested player is placed on a team.
The Why: We evaluate players during the first sessions and then build competitive, balanced teams where every child can reach their best. We help players understand their current skill level, show them how to improve through practice, and inspire them to want to grow because they love the game and they want to play better.  It all starts with us instilling a "belief" in them, that will translate into a "belief" in themselves that will translate into rapid improvement.

  • The Short: City League includes a regular season, local tournament, and end-of-season playoffs.
The Why: Most games are after school to avoid weekend conflicts. The schedule is designed to deliver lots of game time and fun, with less stress on family commitments. We design our schedules and build our culture to avoid parents feeling "guilty" about missing a game, while making it easy for most to be at every game.  Our local tournament offers all the best parts of tournament play—competition, excitement, community—without the cost or travel burden.

  • The Short:
Each team is coached by a trained City League coach. Some coaches are parents, but all coaches are trained and supported by City League.

    The Why:
City League does not ask coaches to show up and invent practice plans on the fly. Our practices are group practices, with development plans, stations, and teaching points designed by City League training directors.

That allows coaches to focus on what matters most: connecting with kids, giving clear instruction, building confidence, reducing fear, and helping athletes love playing their best.

We believe the best youth coaches are not just people who know the sport. They are people who know how to create an environment where kids feel supported, challenged, and excited to come back.

  • The Short: No. Jerseys are included in your fee and returned at season’s end.
The Why: Kids love the gear (aka "drip"), and we ensure it’s high-quality. By rotating jerseys across seasons, we keep costs and waste low and quality high for every family.

  • The Short: No. City League blends the best of rec and club programs into one.
The Why: We provide professional coaching, rapid skill development, and real competition—without the costs and strain of travel. Our 4-pillar model—Athleticism, Mindset to Compete, Sport-Specific Skill, and Love for the Sport—guides everything we do. Every child can grow and thrive in our program, no matter their starting point.

  • he Short:
City League is for kids who want to play, compete, improve, and build a lifelong love of sports.

    The Why:
Whether your child is new to the game or already loves it, City League gives athletes a place to develop real skills in a positive, competitive environment. Our programs are designed to help kids get more reps, build confidence, explore multiple sports, and grow as complete athletes.

We want kids to improve now while keeping their future options open, so they can continue pursuing the sports they love for years to come.

  • The Short: City League helps kids build the foundation to pursue any sport they love, at whatever level they choose later in life.
The Why: Most future athletic opportunities—whether recreational, high school, college, or beyond—depend on a child developing three things: real athleticism, a love for the sport, and the mindset to compete. City League is built around these three drivers. By combining professional coaching, multi-sport flexibility, skill-building environments, and a low-pressure structure, we maximize your child’s chance of thriving in sports over the long term. When kids grow into their bodies and identities, they’ll be confident, skilled, and motivated to pursue what they love—because they’ll already have the tools to succeed.
